Remote Learning Centre

A Safe & Fun way for Kids to participate in Online Education

INTRODUCING Our Remote Learning Centre

Let your kids complete their Online Schooling in a Safe and Fun environment
Laser City is offering a Remote Learning Centre for the upcoming school year.

Children in Grades 2 to 6 can do their online schooling in our spacious 17,000 square foot facility, with limited students and kid-focused staff to supervise them.

Our trained staff will be focused on supporting kids through their online learning in the best way possible. The schooling portion will be provided online by teachers from the Public and Catholic school boards.

After the children have done their schooling for the day, we will facilitate a variety of fun filled activities such as Arts, Crafts, Laser Tag, Mini Paintball, Minecraft, Story Writing, Dinosaur Facts, Educational Movies, making Balloon Animals, and more!

important Information

What This Is and Isn't
We want to be very transparent about what this service is and isn't. We're doing our best to support our communities in these new times, and we hope that for some people we can provide a valuable service to help them and their families.

We are not trying to replace or replicate a school or teachers. We're providing a safe space for kids to participant in Online Schooling provided by their school board, rather than doing it from home.

Our staff are here to provide assistance, guidance and support to kids while they're at the facility. Parents will still need to be involved in their kids education, liaising with their teachers and helping with homework in the evenings.

All participants must be registered in their schools Online Education program. We aren't able to accommodate students who are homeschooling via a parent-led program - homeschooling is distinct from school-led online education in that it requires parents to deliver the education.

As this is a new service, there will be things that change as we get started. We'll always strive to do what's best for the kids and their families.

Safety

Covid-19 Safety Measures
Safety is our #1 priority.

Because of the size of our facility (over 17,000 sqft), we're in a unique position with distancing. We will be spacing the kids out and assigning seats during the learning portion of the day. With a maximum of 36 kids in the program, distancing is much easier.
  • All staff will be wearing masks. Masks will be required for kids while they can't physically distance. Because of the size of our facilities, physical distancing is almost always possible.
  • We have a rigorous cleaning schedule that happens during and after the day.
  • Regular supervised hand washing and sanitizing is built into our daily schedule.
  • All children will be required to self-assess each day before attending. Anyone showing any symptoms of Covid-19 will need to stay home.
  • We will also temperature screen all children as they enter the facility, and monitor everyone throughout the day.

FREQUENTLY Asked Questions

Do I have to bring my kids stuff home every day?
No. Bins will be assigned to each child, so they can leave any school supplies at the facility

What devices will my kids use for their Online Schooling?
Parents will need to supply a laptop or Chromebook for their child to work on. They'll also need headphones. Don't worry, we'll supply a power outlet and Wifi!

How many kids will be there?
They'll be a maximum of 36 kids in the program. Our facility is around 17,000 sqft, with 20+ foot high ceilings, so provides a massive amount of space for physical distancing and air circulation.

Is food included?
Children will bring their own lunch and snacks every day. Drinking water is available all the time for bottle refills
We'll be hosting regular pizza parties, which are included in the price of the program!

Are kids required to wear a mask?
Kids will need to wear masks where physical distancing is not possible. While they're doing their Online Education, we're able to easily spread kids out to 6+ feet. Masks are not required when kids are doing something active, such as Laser Tag, Mini Paintball, games, etc
All staff will be wearing masks.

Are your staff teachers?
No, they are kid-focused, outgoing and fun. We pride ourselves in hiring staff who can act as role models for the kids, and assist with their learning and growth as best they can.
We will have specialized staff for our remote learning centre who have a background in childcare development or elementary education.
Your child's teacher is still responsible for educating them, but with the assistance of you and us.

Can I sign my child up for a couple days a week?
Unfortunately not. In order to keep the cohorts the same, and limit interaction with new people, children must sign up for the entire term.

Do you offer sibling discounts etc?
At this point we are unable to offer any discounts.

Are PD Days included?
Yes! The schedule and activities might be a little bit different on those days, but we'll be making sure the kids have a blast on those days

What if someone has COVID-19 like symptoms at your facility?
If a child begins to feel sick at the facility, they will be taken to a designated space away from everyone else and given a disposable mask to wear. Parents/guardians will be contacted to pick up their child.
If a staff member shows symptoms they will be sent home immediately.
Staff or children will not be allowed to return until they have a negative test result.
These guidelines are set out by AHS.

If my child has a learning disability or is in a specialized program in school, can they sign up for this program?
We want to make sure your child is supported and in the best learning environment possible. We do not believe we can create the best learning environment for kids who need extra help with their education.
